There is a facility known as e darshan where you can get the online darshan on a single window system. Once you reach the balaji temple complex you can see the traditional temple building, with a number of modern queue and pilgrim lodging sites.

In the garba griha directly beneath a golden dome called the "Ananda Nilaya Divya Vimana" you can find the flawless black idol of Vishnu which is self manifested. No human made it nor installed it.
